2018 Shenzhen Open Has Announced Strongest Ever Player Field in History

Shenzhen, China, July 23, 2018 ——  The ATP 250 Shenzhen Open announced today that Three Time Grand Slam Champion, and former World Number 1 Sir Andy Murray and World Number 11 David Goffin, will be joined by ATP Tour Stars Borna Coric (Croatia), Denis Shapovalov, (Canada), Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) and Alex De Minaur (Australia) in what will be the strongest ever player field in the history of  the 2018 Shenzhen Open ATP 250 event.

Murray, will return to the Longgang Sports Center for the first time since 2014 when he won the title saving 5 match points on his way to defeating Spain’s Tommy Robredo in the final. He will be joined by Defending Champion David Goffin currently Ranked 11 and enjoying another consistent year on the ATP Tour.
Borna Coric ranked 21 and only 21 years of age has had an amazing year so far, reaching the semi final of the Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells and last month winning the ATP 500 event in Halle, Germany, beating the legendary Roger Federer in the final.
Another exciting young player, Denis Shapovlaov Ranked 25 and only 19 years of age is already a star on the ATP Tour reaching the semi final of the Masters 1000 Event in Madrid this year and is the youngest player in the World’s top Top 25.
Fellow 19 years old, Stefanos Tsitsipas ranked 32, continues his rapid rise up the ATP Rankings and his “never say die” attitude on court is sure to excite the Shenzhen fans.
The third 19 year-old announced today is Australian Alex de Minaur who is already ranked 68 in the World and reached his first ATP Tour final in Sydney earlier this year.
Tournament Director Leon Sun was delighted with the player field assembled so far.

Today’s Press Conference and Ticketing announcement was attended by government officials: Mr.Wang Zhiqiang, Sport Development Department Director of Bureau of Culture, Sport and Tourism of Shenzhen City; Mr.Liu Deping and Mr.Chen Zhenliang, Director and Deputy Director of Bureau of Culture, Sport and Tourism of Longgang District. Mr.Liu Fengning, the CEO of Shenzhen Gemdale Sport Industry Co., and Mr.Huang Mingzhi, the Vice President of Kaisa Sport Group.

The Theme of the 2018 event is “Give Me Five” which celebrates the fifth anniversary of the event. Other Exciting initiatives for the 5th Anniversary edition of the Shenzhen Open have also been introduced.

There will be no increases in Ticket prices from 2017.  As part of the goal to involve the whole community of Shenzhen the design of the ticket will be decided by a competition open to Children under 12years of age.

There is a new incentive for Ballkids this year. Out of the 72 ballkids, two will be chosen from their training camp held in August to participate in the Shanghai Masters in October this year.  

The Shenzhen Open will be held from Saturday 22nd September to Sunday 30th September 2018 at the Longgang Sports Center in Shenzhen.
